Certified Skating coach with a figure foundation & a hockey family
Lauren Varga is a lifelong skater and U.S. Figure Skating Gold Medalist. A certified coach with U.S. Figure Skating and accredited by the Professional Skater‘s Association since 2004, she works with skaters of all ages — from Learn-to-Skate beginners to competitive athletes — focusing on edge quality, power, and control.
Blending the precision of figure skating with the strength of hockey stride work, Lauren helps skaters build confidence, agility, and flow on the ice.
Based in Gansevoort, New York, she’s also a mom of three hockey-loving kids — and knows firsthand how skating can shape confidence, focus, and joy. 💛

Intro Lesson (New Figure/Hockey Students Only)
30 minutes
A low-commitment introductory session to assess fundamentals, movement patterns, confidence level, and development needs.
Includes:
- On-ice assessment tailored to discipline:
- Hockey power skating lessons: stride, edges, acceleration, transitions
- Figure skating lessons: edges, alignment, posture, turns, stroking
- Short video clips (if helpful)
- Verbal coaching summary with recommended next steps
Optional Add-On:
+ Written follow-up report (ie, priority fixes, cues, drills)
Private Figure Skating & Hockey Power Skating Lessons
Individual coaching tailored to the skater’s level — from foundational edgework to advanced power, speed, and technique. Choreography and test prep also available for figure skaters.

Suitable for hockey players, figure skaters, and returning LTS skaters ready to advance.
Private “Learn to Skate” Lessons
Perfect for young or first-time skaters building comfort and confidence on the ice (follows Learn-to-Skate USA curriculum). Designed to establish strong fundamentals, balance, and safety skills.

Note: For new skaters, private lessons are most effective as a supplement to Learn-to-Skate group classes (offered via Saratoga Springs Rec, AYHA, Hockey Hut, etc.), which offer value as well as peer group motivation. They can; however, be a sole method of learning to skate.

Lessons take place at multiple rinks across the Capital Region, including:
- Saratoga Springs Ice Rinks (Weibel / Vernon)
- Schenectady Airport Ice Rink (Ray Wemple Memorial Rink)
- Glens Falls Rec Rink
- Gavin Park outdoor rink in Gansevoort/Wilton (seasonal)
- Clifton Park / Albany area rinks (as available)
Location is confirmed based on safe, uncrowded ice availability, and typical locations by day are listed below. Don’t see your rink listed or having trouble finding a day/time that works for you on the calendar? Email Lauren@lvskating.com to inquire about additional options.

*NOTE: Private lesson fees do not include the cost of ice time or skate rental, which must be purchased separately through the rink (see individual rink websites/schedules for details).
